چکیده

UNLABELLED Bone scintigraphy, despite being non-specific, is a very sensitive and simple investigation for patients with active Paget's disease of the bone. Skeletal metastases and Paget's disease may co-exist in the elderly patients as both conditions are commonly seen in this age group. Clinical and radiological correlation may help to improve the diagnostic specificity of a bone scintigram. We report a patient in whom concurrent Paget's disease and a rib fracture became evident only on repeat scintigraphy following successful treatment of prostate carcinoma skeletal metastases. CONFLICT OF INTEREST None declared.

Diagnostic uncertainty of isolated skull lesion in prostate cancer- Role of SPECT/CT

Skeletal involvement is the second most common site of metastases after lymph nodal metastases in patients with prostate cancer. The skeletal metastases from prostate cancer are osteoblastic in nature and show increased tracer avidity on the bone scan. Focal tracer avid lesion in skeleton especially in skull requires the careful examination by further investigation. The patients with skull meta...

Advantages and Disadvantages of Bone Protective Agents in Metastatic Prostate Cancer: Lessons Learned

Nine out of ten metastatic prostate cancer (PCa) patients will develop osseous metastases. Of these, every second will suffer from skeletal-related events (SRE). SRE are associated with an increased risk for death, which is markedly increased in the presence of pathological fracture. Moreover, health insurance costs nearly double in the presence of SRE. Zoledronic acid and denosumab are both ap...

Additive clinical value of bone scintigraphy in patients with malignant tumors with absence of localized bone pain: A report on most common sex-related cancers

Introduction: Almost all malignant tumors have the potential to eventually produce bone metastasis. The aim of the current study was to report the distribution pattern and imaging characteristics of bone metastases detected by conventional whole body bone scintigraphy in patients with different types of malignancies and to assess their relationship with the complain...

Comparison of 99mTc-MDP and 99mTc-MIBI whole body scans for diagnosis of widespread skeletal metastases [Persian]

Skeletal metastasis is one of the most important disabling complications of the malignant diseases. As in general, the survival of patients with osteometastatic lesions is relatively long, an early diagnosis can lead to improve the patient’s life, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and prevent exacerbation of the disease and disabling complications. In this study, 22 patients with est...

A comparative study of cost and quality of life among Skeletal Related Events (SRE) and non-SRE among breast and prostate cancer patients in Malaysia

Background The human skeleton is the most common organ to be affected by metastatic cancer (skeletal or bone metastases). The prevalence of skeletal disease is greatest in breast and prostate carcinoma. Bone metastases lesions weaken bone structure, causing a range of symptoms and complications. Sufferers of breast and prostate cancers may develop Skeletal related events (SRE). These SRE are de...
